The former Reds star can see the possibility in a Gunners starlet but isn’t convinced that Jurgen Klopp should be pushing for the 18-year-old.

Bukayo Saka could be sparking interest from Liverpool however, the Reds should just be curious if the Arsenal child ever became available as a free agent, says Steve McManaman.

The 18-year-old Gunners academy graduate is just tied to terms at Emirates before the summer of 2021.

People in north London are happy to put an extension in place, but no price has been done as yet.

That has resulted in suggestions that Saka might be targeted by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, with Premier League rivals keen to purchase in the adolescent’s versatility and potential.

McManaman can see why a highly-rated talent is creating speculation but is eager to point out that anyone coming at Anfield to fulfill a function on the left, will have a”long wait” for regular actions supporting the likes of Andy Robertson.

“He seems like an excellent player, but he is incredibly youthful,” McManaman told HorseRacing.net.

“If there are contract issues and that he becomes available on a free transfer then that is a no brainer since you are taking somebody on a free contract who is young and has a great deal of potential.

“If he continues his development in left-back, then he is not like Andy Robertson at the present time.

“If he does join Liverpool then he has a long wait and Liverpool have a few young left-backs waiting in the wings who we have seen in the FA Cup this season, who’d most likely be on a par with Bukayo Saka now in time.

“It all depends on numerous things such as economics and if it is a deal that Liverpool believes is worth doing. They may believe that it’s a bargain not necessarily in need, but they may do it anyway.”

Liverpool are thought to be in greater need of assaulting reinforcements this summer rather than another option for left-back or their midfield unit.

Arsenal are also understandably reluctant to part with a home-grown celebrity.

Former Gunners winger Ray Parlour is excited to find an extension set in place, telling talkSPORT: “I think he must get tied down today on a new contract. I think they’re trying to organise it in this time.”

Saka has 25 appearances for Arsenal this season, recording three goals and eight assists.
