There have been talks about Arsenal’s newly appointed captain, Aubameyang, leaving the club following his cryptic message on Instagram after his friend, ‘Troopz’, the controversial YouTube owner of AFTV, was not allowed in the stadium.

Questions have been asked about whether the club will be without their lead scorer and many have placed Arsenal on a pedestal of failure should Aubameyang leave, but they might just have a player on their hands that could take the club to the next level if given the chance to.

This player is none other than Gabriel Martinelli. The 18-year-old Brazilian has been in an impressive form for Arsenal since signing for the club from a third-tier Brazilian club, Ituana. He has played nine matches and scored seven goals.

His performance so far has been impressive and fans are starting to realize what a gem he is. It isn’t just fans who are pleased with the Brazilian youngster as his teammate, David Luiz also spoke with 90Min as seen on EveningStandard on what a talent Martinelli is and how his mentality is one of the best he has seen in Arsenal:

“I always say, talents, I have seen many, but great mentality, I didn’t see many.

“And who arrives far? It’s great mentality, not just talent.

“I’m not going to say to you about who is the most talented [at Arsenal], but the best mentality at the moment is Martinelli.

“He has a great mentality, especially because I know Brazilians at 18 years old.

“He’s a top guy, a top player, but what makes me more impressed is the mentality in the training ground, the way he reacts after he scores goals.

“[After] scoring at Anfield, he continues to work, not asking already, ‘I have to play, I have to play’. This is a great mentality.

“He’s taking his opportunities step-by-step, always with the same focus and determination. He is so mature for his age.”

Why Martinelli will be the next big thing

Currently, the Arsenal squad has some pretty talented youngsters in the likes of Bukayo Saka and Joe Willock who already got the chance to be in the first team and even though they have been performing well, Gabriel Martinelli’s maturity coupled with his skills gives him an edge over them.

He has played nine matches, scoring seven goals with one assist. Defensively, he has an average of 1.6 tackles per match, 0.1 interceptions, and 0.1 clearances; while on the offence, he has an average of 1.6 shots per game, 0.9 key passes per game, averages one dribble per game and is fouled an average of 0.7 per game (WhoScored).

For an 18-year-old, Martinelli is holding it down right for Arsenal and let’s not forget that he is still young with a lot of room for improvement.

He might not be on the level of top midfielders in the world just yet but with potential like his, we can see him develop into a greater player than he is right now someday and be able to say, ‘he is a gunner’.

Conclusion

Arsenal are at a critical place right now and using all the resources they have is key. What is more important is being able to channel those resources into working out right for them and with Gabriel Martinelli, a good environment where the youngster can develop even better is all he needs to thrive.
