Who are Tottenham Hotspur?
Tottenham Hotspur are a professional football club from England.
The club were formed in 1882. Shortly after being allowed to play to the Southern League back in 1895, Spurs started attracting large crowds to their home matches;
The side acquired their first piece of silverware six years later by beating Sheffield United in the FA Cup final, therefore becoming the only non-Football League outfit to win the FA Cup.
In 1908 they became a member of the Football League. Save for one FA Cup title in 1921, the next 50 years were fairly uneventful for the club.
The post-World Wor II period saw the club perk up a bit, especially after Tottenham started fulfiling the “push and run” style of play. While one of the biggest reasons Spurs won a League title in 1951.
The appointment of club icon Bill Nicholson as a head coach in 1958 was the dawn of a new era for Tottneham.
During his sixteen seasons at the helm, he led his team to a League title in 1961, three FA Cups (1961, 1962, 1967), one Cup Winners’ Cup in 1963, two League Cups (1971, 1973), and the inaugural UEFA Cup in 1972.
His departure in 1974 left an immediate impact on the team, which were relegated not long afterwards.
However; with a new boss, Keith Burkinshaw, and a couple of marquee signings, Spurs returned to the spotlight by clinching an FA Cup title in 1981.
After defending the trophy the following season, they went one step further by lifting their second UEFA Cup trophy in 1983.
The next couple of decades were clearly mixed, with three successful Cup raids standing out in a sea of mediocre division finishes.
After winning their final FA Cup in 1990, the club followed it up with League Cup victories (1999 2008).
Being mostly an average club in the new league, Tottenham were back in the top and fighting for a Premier League title in the 2015/16 season.
The next campaigns league result would be even better, with a second position after city rivals Chelsea, thus far the best position ever in PL for them.
What are the predictions for next season?
Tottenham Hotspur at the moment is far away from being the title contenders.
Top 4 finish should be the main target but it does look unreachable when compared to the other elite sides.
They should be finishing the campaign in the Top 6 and secure the Europa League position.
Claiming the UEFA Conference League title is a real possibility along with a great cup run in either Carabao or FA Cup.
Tottenham Hotspur – 2021/22 season (odds)
As mentioned title charge from Nuno Espirito Santo’s men looks unlikely, as PL odds of 40/1 indicate.
