Who is Ben White?
Benjamin William White commonly known as Ben White is a professional footballer who plays as a central defender for the Premier League club Arsenal and the England national team.
He started his youth career at the Premier League outfit Southampton before being released at the age of 16, White was signed by Brighton & Hove Albion where the player initially joined their academy.
In the summer of 2017, White signed for League Two side Newport County on loan until the end of the 2017–18 term in what was described by head cocah Michael Flynn as a “big coup for the club.”
The next year, White claimed the South Wales Argus Player of the Year Award for the club for the 2017–18 season.
At the awards ceremony, boss Michael Flynn described his player as “the best loan signing the club has ever made.”
After being mentioned with a move to Tottenham Hotspur after initially snubbing a new contract proposal at Brighton, White did pen a fresh long-term deal in April 2018.
On 3 January 2019, Ben signed for League One side Peterborough United on loan until the end of the term. White finished his loan stint making 16 appearances across all competitions, netting once.
The following year, White joined Championship club Leeds United on loan until the end of the campaign.
On 4 September 2019, after impressive showings during the month of August, White clinched the Championship PFA Player of the Month award.
Fe months lter, after continuing his form, Ben won award for the Championship Best Young Player, as voted by Sky Sports readers.
He played in all 46 league matches (and all 49 overall) as Marcelo Bielsa’s men were promoted to the Premier League as league winners.
Following the conclusion of the loan, White won the Yorkshire Evening Post award for Player of the season and the Leeds Young Player of the season award for 2019–20.
Last year, White was included in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2019–20 term.
After a strong campaign breaking into the senior team White picked up the Player Of The Season award in the summer, on the same day as his very first England start.
In the summer transfer market of 2021, White signed for Mikel Arteta’s club for £50 million.
What style of play does Ben White has?
He is known as a ball-playing central defender with great technical ability and was also praised by former coach Michael Flynn for his tough tackling style, Ben can also play as a holding midfielder or as a right-back.
The Englishman describes his own style as a “calm” and “cool” player. Ben is also known for his surging forward sprints with the ball helping create rapid counterattacks from deep.
