Arsenal kicked off the new season with a 2-0 defeat against Brentford on Friday night.

Mikel Arteta has seen his teams strengthen this summer Albert Sambi Lokonga, Nuno Tavares and Ben White for a combined sum of £75million.

These signings isn’t enough to compete for the Premier League trophy and Arteta plans to add top-class players before the end of the summer transfer window, while several first-team players are linked with a departure from the Emirates Stadium.

Aouar back on Arsenal radar

Leicester City star James Maddison is considered to be a top transfer target for Arsenal, however, they cannot afford him and looking for a cheaper alternative.

That’s according to The Sun , which reports the North London giants have sounded out a loan move for Ligue 1 giants Lyon star Houssem Aouar to fulfil Mikel Arteta’s desire to sign a creative option.

Arsenal came close to luring a 23-year-old midfielder last summer, however, the deal has been never materalised.

Barcelona keen on signing Lacazette

La Liga giants Barcelona are reportedly interested in the signing of Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette in a bid to fill the enormous void after the departure of Lionel Messi who has signed for PSG.

Lacazette’s future at the Emirates Stadium has been uncertain with Arsenal are keen on selling him in order to raise funds and sign a creative midfielder.

The Gunners are believed to be eyeing a new forward as well as a No.10 and Fichajes reports that Barcelona are keen on the Frenchman Sergio Aguero’s calf injury, which has ruled for three months.

Nigel Winterburn urged Arsenal to sign Maddison

Former Arsenal star Nigel Winterburn has urged Mikel Arteta do whatever it takes to sign James Maddison.

The 24-year-old playmaker found the back of the net 11 times last campaign and laid on many more assists to grab the Gunners’ attention, however, the Foxes are believed to be demanding around £50million for his signature.

Nonetheless, Winterburn believes that Maddison would be a perfect addition to the Gunners.

“I think where Arsenal are right now, it would be a huge move” Winterburn told FreeSuperTips .

” Leicester have been so consistent in around the top of the league and to pull that player away using the history of Arsenal would be massive.

“We’ve struggled with our league form, so to bring in someone of that quality would make a strong statement. We are trying to get back to where we want to be which is in that top four and once we’re there other options in terms of players start to open up.

“Maddison would be a great signing and a huge statement.”
